We were pleased to welcome local bird expert & broadcaster Ed Drewitt back to Troopers Hill on a glorious sunny, if cold, Spring morning.
As we assembled on Troopers Hill Field we could hear a blackbird singing and Ed also pointed out a pair of magpies starting to build a nest.
Walking across to the edge of the Woods there were wrens, robins and a chifchaff. In the Woods a grey heron flew overhead and we heard a jay imitating a buzzard.
Walking round the Hill itself we heard a greater spotted woodpecker as we looked across the City. Sparrows made themselves known as we neared Greeendown hedge.
Throughout the morning Ed spoke to us about the different birds, the types of calls and their behaviour. As we got back to Troopers Hill Field there was time for questions.
Thank you to the Special Interest Group for Bioacoustics (part of UK Acoustics Network) for funding this event.
