Annual 'Hay Meadow' Cut at Greendown

As part of the Management Plan (Objective 7.2.3.1) the area of grassland at Greendown is cut as a 'hay meadow' with the grass cut and removed in July or early August each year. This is part of 'compartment 2' and the aim over the last few years has been to increase the area that can be cut as a meadow by reducing the amount of bramble. Removing the arisings helps prevent the soil becoming too rich as it would if the grass was cut and allowed to compost on the site. Cutting in July should give any flowers the chance to seed before being cut.
