Speedy clean ups and repairs on Troopers Hill

--- Posting from our now closed Forum ---
Some of you are probably already aware of how much Friends of Troopers Hill, dog walkers and many other users of Troopers Hill appreciate our Community Park Keeper, Jules - you may have read some of his musings in our newsletter. Just to let you know that as usual he is on the case as regards the recent fire in the gully and the damaged fence at the entrance by the square chimney. The fencing was spotted on Thursday afternoon and repaired Friday morning - how's that for excellent service? Photos below. The light weight bits of burnt things in the gully that were likely to blow around were cleared by our work party on Saturday and Jules will be bringing in an appropriate vehicle today to remove the heavy stuff.

Cheers,

Susan

..and the bits from the fire are all neatly tidied away. Hopefully the right grasses will recover, luckily most of the fire was on the path which was bare earth. The really important ones for wildlife are often the one that like really poor grass with very think blades. The lush green, broad leaved grass is often not very good (in relative terms) for the specific wildlife found on Troopers Hill.

Jules continues to look after us, some of the textile used as a kind of underlay for the path up from Greendown was flapping around...

..and his magic potion removed the scrawl from the sign by the chimney. If anyone knows who did the scribbling please either let us know (email friends@troopers-hill.org.uk), or Crimestoppers (phone 0800 555 111 or use their online form on http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org) or the police by emailing ssnbristoleastnpt@avonandsomerset.police.uk

Many thanks,

Susan

Jules has been straight on the case yet again, this time finding two burnt out wheelie bins at the top of Troopers Hill. He has done the best tidy up he can but a lot of plastic has melted into the ground which our invertebrate friends aren't going to find easy to burrow through if they come back to their favourite bare bit of ground nesting site. Mining bees particularly like Troopers Hill's bare patches of soil.

The police have been informed. If anyone knows who did the burning please either let us know (email friends@troopers-hill.org.uk), or Crimestoppers (phone 0800 555 111 or use their online form on http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org) or the police by emailing ssnbristoleastnpt@avonandsomerset.police.uk or phoning 0845 456 7000. It would also help to know roughly when it happened so if you know when you last saw this area looking OK over the weekend and when you first noticed the damage that would be helpful.

We are really pleased that actually there is very little vandalism on Troopers Hill so it would be great to nip it in the bud.

Here's a photo of the damage.
