Second Jubiliee Visit to Troopers Hill

--- Posting from our now closed Forum ---
Just in case you haven't noticed the new link on our home page, have a look at today's photos of Air Balloon Hill School's Jubilee visit on http://www.troopers-hill.org.uk/school/Jubilee.htm.

This morning the Hill was quiet and peaceful. A bee was taking nectar from patch of red clover

and a few dogs and their owners were taking the air.

Then, in the distance, drumming and cheers could be heard.

There had been a little warning - Friends of Troopers Hill had been doing their own advance homework, and signs like these were placed strategically around the Field and Hill.

A procession emerged on Troopers Hill.

accompanied by our friendly local policeman, Pete Crawford

A magnificent banner told us what it was all about.

Year 5 formed an outer circle, just behind the chimney and the rest of the school filed into the middle of the circle with much dancing and cheering.

The headmaster told the school all about the previous Jubilee, when Victoria was queen, and the school used to be in Crews Hole. This visit to Troopers Hill was to commemorate the school having crossed Troopers Hill for that previous Jubilee to St George Park for a picnic.

The school then sang the national anthem and set off, back to school, under the friendly eye of their Community Park Keeper, Julian,

who had kindly dismantled the Summerhill Terrace kissing gate to make it easier for the children to reach and leave the Hill.

Well done, Richard Gascoyne, who teaches at Air Balloon Hill School, for organising such a successful event and all the many people who helped him. The children were a credit to themselves and the school. We and Bristol Parks were delighted to be contacted well in advance of the event and very happy to lend our support.

We would have liked to let you know in advance this was happening but the school asked us not to give this event any publicity. We do hope you enjoy the photos.
