Tai Chi

Our Sunday morning Tai Chi sessions with the Bristol School of Tai Chi are proving to be very popular - the next is this Sunday (20th July) please contact Susan via friends @ troopers-hill.org.uk or 0117 947 5037 if you would like to join us - there is no limit on numbers so you can just turn up but we would like to get an idea of how many people to expect.
Photos of the last session can be seen here.
You might also be interested to see some videos of some of the moves performed by farmers. This was something that Ben mentioned last time and they are featured on the 'Love OM' website here

Re: Tai Chi

The Tai Chi is excellent. If anyone is thinking of coming along but a bit doubtful, I'd say give it a try. It's something pretty much anyone can do and it doesn't leave you puffed out and sweaty.

Some of us are trying to persuade Ben to organise classes in East Bristol (St George notably!) as the closest in the evening are at Kellaway Road.

Thanks for organising it, FOTH! We'd be lost without you!

Re: Tai Chi

Liz,

Many thanks for the plug. There were 30 of us today and I think we all enjoyed it mightily apart from a very young person (I think under 6) who decided he had had enough about half way through and legged it pursued by Mum. We have been incredibly lucky with the weather and please, everyone, keep your fingers crossed that this holds for our last class for this year on Sunday 10th August.

Yes, Ben Milton of the Bristol School of Tai Chi, has been asking those of us attending the classes whether we would be interested in a regular evening class. The idea is 7pm-8.30pm at a nearby venue on Tuesdays or Thursdays. So if you know of a local hall that could take 20+ people at a reasonable cost at those times please could you get in touch?

This has been a very popular activity so if we have the money and members want us to do outdoor sessions again next year we shall definitely do it. As part of the feedback from new people who come along each time I have put on the feedback form that I ask people to complete "If you would like us to arrange open air Tai Chi classes for next year please put £1 in the collecting box". Over 20 people have done so that is part way towards paying for 1 class.

I have had feedback that 10am on Sundays is not very good for churchgoers although this was a very popular time for a lot of people. Any suggestions for a better time next year? 11am has been suggested.

All the best,

Susan

Re: Tai Chi

Or perhaps we could have a word and get churchgoers a special dispensation to go to Evensong instead.

Re: Tai Chi

Our last Tai Chi class on Troopers Hill Field for this year was held this morning. Well done to all of those of you who came despite the torrential downpour that started about an hour beforehand. The rain stopped in time for the class. It actually felt quite warm in the sun that followed.

I have 20 names that are interested in having a regular evening class so I am on the case to find a venue for a Tuesday or Thursday night from 7-8.30pm. Phone Susan on 0117 947 5037 or email friends@troopers-hill.org.uk if you want to be added to the list.

Beryl is kindly checking out venues in Hanham. I am looking at places in St George. As soon as we have found one we will pass on the details to the Bristol School of Tai Chi and leave them to get on with it from there. If anyone does know of a possible venue please could you check it out and get in touch?

People seem quite keen to do open air Tai Chi next year so we will put this into the pot of suggestions when we have our event planning meeting in November. If we are lucky enough to find grant money again that would be great. If you know a local source of money to tap into do let us know.

I now have to write the report the Bristol Primary Care Trust who gave us the grant for this year's 4 sessions. I think it has been a great success. We have attracted people from all ages including the age bracket that the grant was aimed at, raised more interest in Troopers Hill, made use of Troopers Hill Field and it looks like we may have been the catalyst for starting a regular class in St George which will improve local access to fitness activities. Sounds like I've already started writing the report - sorry.

Rob will be posting the photos on the events part of this website very shortly.

We'll be off to the top of the Hill soon to see if we can spot the Red Arrows - they are supposed to be flying over the Balloon Fiesta at 4pm. Maybe see you up there. Weren't the balloons great on Friday evening when loads flew over the Hill?

All the best.

Re: Tai Chi

Tai Chi classes are starting soon at the Wesley Memorial Church on Bryants Hill thanks to the Bristol School of Tai Chi who ran our classes on Troopers Hill Field. They are having a taster session for £6 on Thursday 2nd October at 7pm and, if they get sufficient take up, they will continue the following week with a series of 10 classes. Here is a link to the application form on the Bristol School of Tai Chi website.

I hope I'll see you there.

All the best,

Susan

Re: Tai Chi

Tai Chi started this Thursday. I have the feeling it's going to be a really good course. We need 2 more people to make it viable though, so if you were thinking about it next Thursday at 7 at John Wesley would be good.

Tonight I have put up extra posters in pubs and takeouts and at least one corner shop.
