Deer

I am recieving a lot of anecdotal evidence of deer spotted on the hill from nearby locations. Either there really are deer or we have some group of 'people' dressing up in antlers on the hill in the early hours of the morning.

Would it be possible to use this topic to report back any sightings?

Verbal sightings, even second hand, would help to build a picture up.

Re: Deer

I saw one on the field in ... maybe 2002. It definitely wasn't anyone dressing up!

Re: Deer

Approx 11am 17th Feb 2008 - one roe doe came bounding past the Duke of Edinburgh volunteers, their teacher and me while we were working on the path leading from the foot of the steps connecting Sally's glade to Lamb Hill to just opposite the red bench in Troopers Hill Field closest to Malvern Rd. I think I posted this on the Forum at the time and it is recorded in the work party report of that date.

Ian walks his dogs in the very early hours of the morning and has posted sitings of deer before.

Rob and I have seen two roe deer on a completely empty hill at around 3pm a few years ago.

Last year we saw one do an amazing jump from Troopers Hill Rd over the kissing gate near the lower chimney.

The reason for the deer road signs on Troopers Hill Rd is that a neighbour of mine had so many sightings she started to become concerned that they would make bloody contact with speeding cars. I contacted highways and they put up the signs. The emails about signs were in September 2004.

Hope that helps,

Cheers,

Susan
