Re: Beeses Beer Festival

We spent a very pleasant evening in good company drinking beer, eating good food, listening to music and watching the stars come out. We were kept warm, as the evening chill grew, by the pashminas that Lindy lends to her customers. Two swans drifted by along the river in the darkness - idyllic.

I met Mary and Paul who are very involved in the Nicola Corry Support Foundation. Mary is Nicola's mum. The Foundation does a very worthwhile job particularly helping families with children where a parent has cancer. More information can be found on http://www.ncsf.org.uk and if anyone knows a company who could donate some fridges the rooms in Ward 61, Bristol Oncology Centre, they would be very grateful. All contact details are on the website.

We will be back at Beeses this evening and I might sample some of the ciders on offer this time. I wonder who will end up meeting tonight. It is such a friendly, relaxing place.

Off for breakfast and the Bristol Parks Forum meeting where much will be learnt and discussed about the Bristol Green Spaces Strategy (see other threads on this forum).

All the best,

Susan

Re: Beeses Beer Festival

I don't know whether it will be published but I have just sent the letter below off to the Evening Post. Judging by the turn out last night the donation will be a good one. Rob and I will, of course only in the interests of Friends of Troopers Hill ;-) be wandering down to Beeses again today.

Beeses Beer Benefits Bristol's Beauty Spots

A big thank you to Ma and Pa Beeses, aka Phil and Lindy, the owners of Beeses Riverside Bar and Tea Gardens, and all of you who made this weekend's Beeses Beer Festival such a resounding success. Phil and Lindy surprised and pleased us very much before the Beer Festival by saying that half of the Beer Festival ticket sales would be donated to Friends of Troopers Hill and Friends of Eastwood Farm. These are groups who care for two of Bristol's very special Local Nature Reserves in East Bristol.

You will have seen the wonderful report in the Evening Post's Seven Magazine of Saturday 18th August about Troopers Hill gaining a Green Flag Award. Phil and Lindy's generous donation will help us to carry on the good work, in partnership with Bristol Parks, to go on to win the Award again next year, making the site even more welcoming and special. Come along to Troopers Hill Field, next weekend, Saturday, 22nd September, 11am-4pm to be welcomed to our Discovery Day and find out more about the Hill's history, wildlife and plants.

The Beer Festival featured 12 beers, a large number of ciders, excellent food, good music from a variety of bands, a brilliant atmosphere and the pleasure of sitting by the riverside as the stars came out with swans gliding past. It was great to join in such an enjoyable event and know that two such good causes were benefiting.

Well done to Phil and Lindy in reviving Beeses, a well-known riverside place of refreshment since 1846. Phil and Lindy only took over Beeses in August last year but have quickly established themselves as much appreciated and involved members of the community. Phil and Lindy also run the Conham Ferry which allows those of us on the north side of the River Avon to take a short 25p boat ride to Beeses and perhaps combine the visit with a walk around Eastwood Farm to enjoy the water meadows, woods and wildlife.

To find out more about Eastwood Farm see http://www.brislington.org/ewf.html and for Beeses www.beeses.co.uk

Re: Beeses Beer Festival

uuuummmm - lunch went on rather a long time - we have spent a very enjoyable afternoon and evening at Beeses and have returned home with a donation of £500 from Phil and Lindy to be divided between Friends of Troopers Hill and Friends of Eastwood Farm.

Thank you very much to our very generous hosts, Ma and Pa Beeses.

Re: Beeses Beer Festival

... and it got published. Yipppeee! Not only that but it was accompanied by a whacking big photo of the Green Flag, the Mayor and a number of very familiar faces in front of the top chimney. Also, in the Times bit, there was a very good article about the history of Troopers Hill and also about Beeses. We got two plugs in for the Discovery Day next weekend and our favourite place of refreshment, Beeses, was well publicised as well.

Very pleased
