Common Lizards on Troopers Hill

Rob and I saw a common lizard basking in the sun, early this evening, on the trunk of the felled ***** willow or goat willow, near the path to Sally's glade. It was still there 30 minutes or so later.

There are lots of red catkins in the woodland at the moment. These have fallen from the poplars and are sometimes known at devils' fingers.

The broom is starting to blossom - not long before the hill turns golden.

Re: Common Lizards on Troopers Hill

Must be Global warming ! ! There certainly were no lizards on TH in the 1930s/1940s. I did in those days see the odd grass snake in the Conham woods ..... wonder
if any of those are still around. Where I now live is
choc-a-bloc with lizards and especially skinks both in
and out of the house.

Re: Common Lizards on Troopers Hill

Yes, Dick, there are still grass snakes both on the hill and I've seen them at the Scout Hut at St Aidans church.

It could well be global warming, we have about 1 days snow in winter, if that. The last time there was enough for the kids to play halfway properly was ... can't remember if it was 2001 or 2002. They try their best though and make tiny snowmen out of half an inch of snowfall. Do you remember better winters when you were here?

Re: Common Lizards on Troopers Hill

There were certainly Lizards around in the early 60's I used to try and catch them. I think there may well be bigger communities now because there haven't been any large fires on the hill for sometime.

As for global warming this is an interesting report..
