Old Photographs of Troopers Hill
Set C - by Raymond Holland
Views of Butler's Tar Works
& Troopers Hill in 1953

These views were taken at Butlers Tar Works in 1953.
The originals belong to Raymond Holland who worked at the Tar Works and wrote a paper on the History of the Tar Works published by the Society of Chemical Industry. Many thanks to Raymond for giving us permission to use them.

Behind can be seen fields and on the skyline the houses on Malvern Road. These fields were part of Malvern Road tip in the 1960s and are now all woodland.

The same fields are seen from a different angle here. On the left of the photo is St Annes Board Mills on the other side of the river.
