Green Flag Award 2008/9

As discussed at our last meeting, the judging for the Green Flag Award for 2008/9 took place last week, we shall get the results in early July.

As well as the two sites in Bristol that already have Green Flags flying - Troopers Hill and the Downs - two other the sites in Bristol have been put forward: Queens Square and Blaise Castle Estate.

Re: Green Flag Award 2008/9

I am pleased to be able to say that Troopers Hill LNR, the Downs, Blaise Castle Estate and Queens Square have all been awarded Green Flags for 2008/9. The new flags will be presented at an award ceremony in Liverpool next week.

In answer to various comments on this forum and at our meetings we will try to improve the way the flag is fixed to the pole when we put the new one up.

You might also be interested to know that Abbots Pool near Abbots Leigh also retained their flag. Golden Valley LNR in Wick were a first time winner. The full list of winners in the South West can be found here.

Jules our parkie gave an excellent description of the hill in an interview for Radio Bristol this afternoon - it was at just after 5.15 on Drive Time - use the BBC Listen Again service if you want to hear it.

Re: Green Flag Award 2008/9

We put the new 2008/9 flag up this morning.
In response to various comments we removed the top bar. We are a bit worried that the flag will now wrap itself round the pole but we will see how it goes. Do let us know whether you think it looks better as it is now or whether we should get a new top bar to be the full length of the flag.
